Member Calabresa represents District 15 on the Lake County Board, which includes Libertyville and portions of Mundelein. She’s been on the board since 1986 and is currently serving as acting chair.

Member Calabresa’s top priorities include fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability, transportation, and balanced growth. She is also deeply committed to addressing the opioid crisis and improving access to mental healthcare.

She is proud of the leadership role she has played over the last three decades in upholding the County’s fiscal stability, including approving balanced budgets each year and maintaining a AAA credit rating from both major credit agencies – the highest rating possible for more than 20 years. Lake County’s mission is to deliver exceptional, financially sustainable services, and we are able to do that because departments are implementing operational efficiencies, leveraging technology, and cutting costs by sharing government services.

Lake County prides itself as being a leader in public health, addressing substance abuse and the opioid crisis, along with improving access to mental and behavioral health services through the Lake County Mental Health Coalition. Carol has been a strong advocate of the Lake County Opioid Initiative since 2013, working with the county board and other partners to invest in these life-saving programs, such as Text-A-Tip, “A Way Out” and the Naloxone program. Last year, she helped secure additional funding for countywide Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training, which helps local law enforcement evaluate various mental health crisis incidents and this year.

Member Calabresa also serves on the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Community Policing Coordinating Council, which works to understand arrest trends and the drivers of the jail population and supports initiatives and programs that reduce recidivism. In addition, the council receives updates on data sharing efforts and programs.

Carol also is proud of the County’s efforts to inform and engage the community. The County broadcasts/webcasts all its county board meetings, and posts audio recordings of all committee meetings. Residents can sign up for telephone townhall meetings, e-newsletters, as well as calendar event notifications, such as county board and committee meetings, at our award-winning website.

Carol is a 40-year resident of Libertyville. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been married to Bill for 50 years and they have three children, Elizabeth, Kathryn and Vincent. They have four grandchildren.
