County Recognized as Leader in Advancing Solar Energy

Lake County recently earned the highly coveted SolSmart Bronze Designation, furthering Lake County’s commitment to solar power growth in the community! Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's SunShot Initiative, SolSmart recognizes local governments who take keys steps to reduce barriers to solar energy growth and makes it easier for homes and businesses to go solar.

The County was awarded this designation by increasing transparency for community members and solar installers through an online permitting checklist and identifying restrictions that limited solar development.

Lake County Creates Solar Energy Task Force

As the cost of solar energy goes down, the interest in solar energy from residents and communities increases! Lake County is creating a Solar Energy Task Force, in partnership with local communities to develop a solar energy model ordinance that will serve as a template for communities to use when adopting solar specific zoning codes. Lake County and our partners aim to modernize regulations to adapt to emerging trends in solar technology.

As the new Energy and Environment Committee studies energy consumption and the impact of climate change on the county, this task force will help further the County’s efforts toward looking at renewable energy sources and reducing its carbon footprint.
