Vernon Hills Water System Mechanical and Electrical Upgrade

Project Location: Various locations in Vernon Hills

Project Description: The Vernon Hills water system serves residents of the Village of Vernon Hills and surrounding areas, serving a total population of more than 25,000 people. The Vernon Hills Water System includes four reservoirs, two elevated water towers and two water delivery structures that are key components of this water distribution system that has been in continuous service for more than 35 years.

Major electrical and mechanical equipment at eight facilities such as motor control centers, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment, water flow control valves, and water level control sensors will be replaced and upgraded to ensure safe and continuous operation of this water system. These upgrades will also allow LCPW to monitor the system remotely and can help reduce the need for Public Works staff to drive around to all of these sites, therefore providing an environmental benefit as well.

Current Information: Work continues at the various locations, with the project almost at 50% completion. Work is currently focused on the Hawthorn Center Reservoir near Hawthorn Mall. Crews recently placed waterproofing, insulation and a new concrete slab over the pump room and are working on major electrical equipment upgrades at this reservoir.
