Taking action now can save lives, prevent injury, and minimize property damage in the moments of a crisis. If you do not have a crisis plan in place, it is time to develop one. If you have one, review, practice, and update your plan.

The U.S. Department of Education Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools offers emergency planning information for school administrators.

Emergency Closing Information

If schools close due to winter weather or an emergency situation, parents can tune in to WGN Radio 720-AM, WBBM Radio 780-AM or watch CBS Ch. 2, NBC Ch. 5, ABC Ch. 7, FOX 32, WGN-TV or CLTV.

Parents can also visit www.emergencyclosings.com (where they can sign-up for personalized email notifications).

Child Care Centers

Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children, which is a collaborative program between the Illinois Department of Public Health and Loyola
University Medical Center, developed guidelines or child care centers in the State of Illinois to help them develop plans for emergency situations.
